An Important Milestone
We at Trinity are so excited to be finally breaking ground on our new building in November, 2024. This building will complete the Trinity campus, provide space for youth and adult programming, and reduce wear and tear on Honyman Hall. It is our vision that the new building allow our community outreach to grow and thrive in Newport.
The Details
The new building is being built on the existing foundation and slab structure from the original Carr-Rice building. The plan incorporates new accessible office space for the church and includes 2 large flex-classroom spaces, a dedicated nursery space and meeting rooms for church committees and other service based outreach programs.
The design nods to the historical language of the overall Trinity campus by working with the existing material palette and forms, while the introduction of a glass facade facing Queen Anne's square is a physical representation of Trinity's openness and desire to interact with the surrounding community.
As a reaction to rising housing costs in Newport, provisions are also being made for a future Rector's unit on the second floor should the need arise.
The building will have a high performance energy efficient wall system along with highly efficient mechanical and electrical systems to minimize its energy usage over time. The roof has also been structured to accommodate solar panels should regulations in the historic district allow for their installation at a later date.
